GUIDELINES FOR PROPER USE OF GRAPHICS
●● general
We’re in the ‘internet era’ now that in the general role playing world we so love, graphics are all the rage. Whether it’s simple little avatars for the head of your posts, or custom made signatures compliments of Photoshop, or a site’s layout. Pretty much everyone has them, uses them, and sometimes… sometimes they abuse them. Maybe it’s just because they’re using images that aren’t that well drawn, or are really fuzzy, or maybe it’s because the graphics they have are painful to look at; maybe it’s a mix of both of these little horrors, with some added sizing failures. Either way, when a site has bad graphics on it, a site isn’t too appealing, and when a site isn’t too appealing, a site loses general interest, and then that site dies.
To prevent that from happening, this little set of guidelines has been set up for you, to know the limitations and whatnot of using graphics on Prelude. It’s recommended that you read through them, even quickly, to get an understanding of things here.
●● limitations
There’s going to be limitations for using images, of course. They’re not going to be ridiculous or unreasonable, but definitely ones you should take note of. Profile-wise, if you use multiple characters on the same account, that doesn’t mean you can clutter it up with multiple images for them. You can have a signature that has both/all of your characters incorporated in it, but it must be under 450x300 in size. Or, you can have three avatars of one of your characters in place of a signature, perhaps more depending on how cluttered it looks and whatnot. For actual avatars in the mini-profile, you can either have the classic 100x100 avatar in the general place, or a larger avatar (around 130x290) in your custom title; you should not, however, have both.
Limitations also refer to certain types of images that you are and are not allowed to use in signatures, avatars, etc. Complete nudity in an obvious, pornographic fashion is not allowed. Over excessive gore is not appreciated. Satanic, devilish themes are not wholly supported, either. Other types of images that aren’t allowed for use are human/real life images – as this site’s theme for face claims are ‘anime/manga-ish’ (preferably manga). Do not use original concepts of characters that you have drawn, and try and stay away from using original characters that other artists have drawn. Stay clear of using badly drawn images, as well, ensure that their quality is high and they’re generally nice looking.
●● face claim
Face claim is a pretty important step with your characters. It is strongly recommended that you find a good face claim from an anime/manga, and then reserving it in the appropriate thread so that no one else uses it. Also meaning that is you do find a nice face claim, check that face claim reservation thread on the tag board to ensure that no one else has a claim to it. You should ensure that the face claim you chose flows with the theme of Prelude itself; so that means no extremely high-tech gear or clothing, no mecha-ness, or anything of the sort. So also should make sure that the face claim matches your character’s chosen race. Can’t very well have a pink haired, pale skinned petite little girl as a Naoi, now can we?
●● note
Please note that at anytime these rules can be subject to changes, additions, and removals. Should this happen you will all be notified by a mass PM and also in updates of the site. If you have a rather important problem with any of these rules, or you see something wrong about them and your reasoning behind that is not petty, then please do PM Allie/Eileithyia. Also, we reserve the right to remove certain images from the site if we see that they do not correspond with the guidelines of using graphics.
