GUIDELINES FOR POSTING ON PRELUDE
●● general
This is an intermediate/advanced role-playing forum, and as such there are certain standards that are expected on it. And no, we’re not going to ask you to give us the world by averaging so and so thousand words every post. Just posts that are over or just at around four hundred words; and that’s not so hard, just about two large paragraphs, actually. But by intermediate/advanced, we’re not only just meaning posting lengths, but also coding, grammar, images and the like are all incorporated into it. And when they are all incorporated into posts, it makes everything a lot more organized and pretty looking.
●● coding & formatting
Generally, these days, we’re all UBBC/coding for posts friendly, right? Right. Everyone’s using it, these days. It makes our posts look pretty. And pretty posts are all the rage. However, sometimes people abuse the coding and formatting of their posts. And this is where we step in to tell you lot about what not to do when you’re copying and pasting, and clicking on the blockquote button.
Firstly, never center align your whole post. Header concoctions and all are fine to be centered, hell, sometimes people might even center speech in the post. But aligning the whole post in the center? That goes in the ‘do not’ section. As for colourizing, it’s not recommended, but it’s moderately allowed. Just make sure that you don’t blend anything into the forum skin, or use colours that are going to blind people. Fluro limegreen is a sexy colour, sure, but it’d just be complete murder if you used it for the whole post. Now, bolding an italicizing? Generally, bolding should just be used for speech in a post, or the header concoctions. Italicizing should be for dream sequences and thoughts. Otherwise, bolding or italicizing or bolding and italicizing the whole post? No, definitely no. Lastly don’t change the font of the post, or the size of the text (header concoctions are, again, excluded from this).
●● grammar, spelling & punctuation
There’s a terribly and most certainly horribly annoying nagging pet-peeve in the back of your mind, that most people tend to get, when they see posts that lack proper grammar, spelling and sometimes even punctuation. That’s what it’s like for all of the staff on Prelude, as it is, and when you’re posting in character or even while you’re doing a character application, use proper punctuation, grammar and spelling! Capitalizing isn’t necessary, but with punctuation, ensure you’re using commas, parenthesis for speech, and so on. Grammar and spelling aren’t always perfect with everyone, and even after proof reading your post their still might be mistakes, we understand that, it happens to us as well.
However, we strongly encourage the use of spell-checks (Mozilla Firefox has one already installed), or even word document programs like Microsoft Word, or it’s counterpart, the free Open Office. Just, please, be mindful of the quality of your post. There’s nothing worse then role-playing with a person and constantly having to determine what they were actually meant to type in their posts.
●● ‘header concoctions’
By ‘header concoctions’ we’re referring to the things that are usually pretty, which people tend to conjure up for the head (above, top) of their posts. These can be avatars, or actual images that were made for intentions of being a post header, so long as they’re appropriate and comply with the guidelines of properly using graphics. Or, it could just be quotes, sayings or text that you have come up with. You can even have a mix of both. Just ensure that they’re pleasing to the eye, and not overly large. Also, these header concoctions aren’t typically necessary.
●● mature content
There comes a time in the roleplaying world when people are going to fight, or use a particular substance, or start getting all lovey-dovey. We understand that these things happen, in real life and everywhere around us; fighting is generally everywhere in the roleplaying world, these days, and drinking alcohol and using drugs can sometimes make a character who they are. We understand that, and don’t have much limits on the violence or detail in which these two aspects are written in, as we’re all mature, and we can handle it. One thing about this site, however, is while it’s targeted at mature roleplayers… Prelude isn’t going to be one big porno. Sure, we allow kissing, nibbling, groping, maybe a little soft foreplay in the boards – but when it gets to the hardcore action, we advise that you ‘fade to black’ and either end the steamy little scene there or take it to PMs if you’re really enthusiastic about it.
●● note
Please note that at anytime these rules can be subject to changes, additions, and removals. Should this happen you will all be notified by a mass PM and also in updates of the site. If you have a rather important problem with any of these rules, or you see something wrong about them and your reasoning behind that is not petty, then please do PM Allie/Eileithyia.
