history !
The Tribe iself was formed long ago, in fact it was the third tribe formed after Korvhan created his race and gave them the forest to call their own. For as long as there has been Metamorphi within the forest, this Tribe has been there. However, Tribal stories and writings have been passed down from each Tribal leader to his or her successor. This means that a little of the information as to how this Tribe was discovered has been documented. I will retell a little of it here for you.
"I have seen the way they act toward each other, the Velanki and the Eukarya always at each other's throats. No species can function with such a split between itself. To protect ourselves, the Varmi and Eukari must survive and work together. But, i cannot let them know this, i cannot tell them or i will be held for dissension, that would not do as the punishment is death. If i die, who will continue to follow my aspirations?
What to do about this matter? Well, i can think of merely one way to resolve this issue that i find so pressing. I will begin my own Tribe, one where this strange rift between our two species will be destroyed and we will work together as we are supposed to. No, they will not like it, but they do not have to they simply have to respect that this decision is the right one."
Thosi Tasaes.
As it was, Thosi did create his Tribe and with it he created a whole structure of rules and obligations that one would swear to before becoming part of the Jhalasi. One other thing he created, was an additional dialect, one only taught to those who became part of his tribe. The dialect was known as; 'si maes os si saer' or, in English: 'the speech of the trees' although a complex language, it came easily to those of the Jhalasi Tribe. The punishment for revealing this dialect to those not of the Jhalasi was death, originally the punishment was exile, however after th Great War, trechery was everywhere and thus, the Jhalasi responded by making the punishment for betrayal much more severe.
Originally, they lived in the village that is now abandoned, it was after a Daemi raid during the Great War that the Jhalasi leader: Volaes Eukari, ordered that they relocate their home into the treetops, this way they would be out of the reach of any but the strongest enemy and they would also have the advantage of seeing the enemy before they, themselves were seen. On a second though, Volaes decided to rebuild their former village and have some of their Tribe live there infrequently, this would form the guise that they still lived upon the ground, keeping safe the rest of their population.
Through the ages there have been numerous Chief's of this tribe, both of the Eukari and the Varmi. A Chief will reign unless one of two things should interrupt their reign. The first is if they die, if this is the case then the Jhalasi Elders will select from the Jhalasi population, a new Chief. However, should the Chief be proved trecherous or unworthy of ruling then his reign will be cut short and he/she and their family will be forced into disgrace. Often, the Chif position is passed down through a worthy bloodline, however it is not rare for another successor to appear from an unknown bloodline. The families of different Chiefs will know each other as 'cousin' despite what bloodlines they may carry. This however, does not effect bonds or relationships and they still may marry to one another.
Jaquael is the current leader of the Jhalasi and he is a firm believer in the laws laid down eons ago by Thosi Varmi. Although in his reign things may change, essentially it will stay the same.
